We love ourselves a good pair of Chuck Taylors, but sometimes they can be just a little too safe, to say nothing of everyone and their mother having a pair. To break away from the herd, here are some options to consider that are not only stylish and rooted in the [...]

We’re typically not inclined to give much credence to a brand that has only been around since 1996, but here’s proof that the right design philosophy and some serious craftsmanship can make up for a lot of lost decades. We swooned when we read the Jack Spade Inspiration page:
“The products these companies manufacture have style because the designs have a reason for being… We want to return to this approach, once again offering men items that represent both honest, thoughtful design and practical purpose.”

Sometimes our travels for business and leisure require more wardrobe options than just jeans and polos. To keep suits, jackets, and tuxedos properly housed while in transit, the suit hold or garment bag is an absolute necessity. Paul Smith makes our favorite version of this luggage staple, the Westborne Suit Hold ($470). The Westborne is made of black woven canvas touch fabric with leather trim, and is fully lined in purple. And it’s the hotness.

Cobalt blue shoes aren’t easy for anyone to pull off. Hamish Bowles (Vogue Editor) manages to tie the look together with his matching sweater and shirt, but it’s actually not necessary to be all matchy-matchy. One way to spunk up a look and show off some sartorial style is to throw in a random element. In this case it was the shoes, but it could be anything from a brightly colored sweater to patterned plaid pants. Just make sure to keep the other elements of your outfit simple so that there’s not too much going on.

Many punches have been thrown in the 2-Button vs. 3-Button jacket debate, and while there will probably never be a clear winner, we would like to throw our weight behind the 2-button camp. Our argument emphasizes the visual lines created by the cut of the jacket instead of any stylistic of fashionisitic differences. Sticking to classic, flattering lines is always appropriate, and the deeper V created by the 2-button cut beats the boxy 3-button any day. And in honor of football season, we’re using telestrator technology to teach.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. For all the cost savings and convenience shopping from work home affords us, getting an online purchase right can be a frustrating and potentially bank breaking ordeal. Uncertain sizes, colors, and fits can turn the simplest purchase in to an expensive, three week battle with UPS. Fighting crowds at the Grove for an hour doesn’t seem so bad anymore. But if we must go the online route, REVOLVEclothing is a good first stop. Read on for why REVOLVE rocks and for a few of our favorites:

Cheap Dress Shoes a la Kenneth Cole (black, big square toe, and rubber sole): I don’t think it’s necessary for guys to spend extravagantly on nice dress shoes. I do, however, have a problem with those of you out there still wearing Kenneth Cole shoes circa early 2000. Maybe it’s because I am getting older, but it seriously reminds me of guys just out of college, purchasing their first pair of semi-dress shoes. You are sorta forgiven if you are 22, fresh out of school, and don’t know any better, but even still…. it just seems so dated, and sooo bridge-and-tunnel.

Gettin’ a little bit colder. Everywhere except L.A., of course, where fall means hot, dry Santa Ana winds and three more months of everyone in awful flip-flops. For the rest of the country, it’s time to dust off the light jackets, flannel, and corduroy, and that means we need more season-appropriate footwear. Below are four solid options for tailgating, raking leaves, and trick-or-treating.
