10 Essentials: Susan

Female, Los Angeles, 28

All my life, I’ve had the pleasure of enchanting men who are eternally in casual clothing: engineers, graphic designers, grad students, and once – a wannabe rapper. Clearly, my charm doesn’t work on William Morris agents, investment bankers, or anyone with considerable assets. I suppose I’m okay with this. But what I’m not okay with — is men who think that dressing casually means dressing carelessly in whatever is most worn-in and within reach of his bed in the morning. So, in order to aid those hard working handsome boys in dressing well enough to get a girl like me – I’d like to provide my list of 10 casual essentials:

Editors’ Pick: Orivs Canvas Rancher’s Jacket

Working-class American staple since the early 1900s and iconic since James Dean made it cool in the ’50s, the denim jacket is pure, rugged man-style.  We’re digging the Cotton Canvas Rancher’s Jacket by Orvis ($179) as a departure from the ubiquitous blue denim jackets that can be a little tough to wear with jeans.  Be [...]

What Would James Bond Do (WWJBD): Rolex Submariner

The Bond film franchise has been through countless timepiece iterations, but no matter how you slice it, the one and only original watch for 007 is a Rolex.  Although Omega, Seiko, Breitling, Pulsar, and others have graced the wrist of Bond, the Rolex is distinct among them.  Sean Connery — and you know how we feel [...]

Travel Essentials: Weekend Duffle Bag

For quick get-aways and weekend trips, the duffel bag is a lightweight and portable option that can be crammed into overhead compartments or thrown into the back seat of your car. Since luggage this size will hopefully never be subject to the brutal treatment of airline baggage handlers, stylish options like these four are a great way to show the plebeians how to travel in style. Our favorite options for sturdy, stylish weekend bags all have great luggage pedigrees.

Travel Essentials: Large Hardside Spinner

Despite the airlines’ inexplicable checked bag fees, sometimes it’s impossible to fit a week’s worth of clothes into a tiny carry-on and we’re forced to go with something a little bigger. If we absolutely must subject our luggage to baggage handlers throwers, conveyor belts, and TSA searches, it should be able to withstand some abuse and stand out from the masses of cheap black nylon rollers. We like polycarbonate shells for being able to take a punch and the four spinner wheels for easier maneuverability. These are four of our favorites for making sure your belongings arrive intact for years to come.

Editors’ Pick: Tag Heuer Monaco

Here at SNF we love iconic pieces with a good pedigree.  The Heuer Monaco was originally introduced in 1969 as the world’s first square cased, automatic chronograph.  It was worn by Steve McQueen in the 1970 film Le Mans, and has been a cornerstone of the Heuer brand ever since.  Although several iterations and redesigns [...]

Editors’ Picks: Scarves

We aren’t advocates of excessive athletic apparel and fan gear, so a stylish way to show some school spirit is a no-brainer for us. Rugby Knit Striped Scarves (1: $18), like this one from the USC campus store, are a cold weather tailgate must. The Burberry Giant Check Cashmere Scarf (2: $295) is instantly recognizable as a bit of winter luxury, and the crazy-comfortable cashmere is definitely worth the price tag. Just avoid the chavvy camel color and opt for darker blues and grays. Paul Smith offers a Reverse Stripe Wool Scarf (3: $100) that is a great mix of style and function. And for a bolder, woodsier man-scarf, try the J. Crew Red Buffalo Check Wool-Angora Scarf (4: $45).
